Film Work

What you’ll find here is a selection of my filmic work. At this time, all that you’ll find are some films I’ve edited, as well as a sampling of the motion graphics work that I’ve done.
You may rest assured, however, that this repository will only grow in size as time passes. Check back, if you are so inclined, from to time to time, and see what new projects I’ve gotten myself into.

If you would be interested in requesting a copy of my reel which includes the following pieces, as well as some others, please feel free to e-mail me at squattingturnip@benspants.com and I will be happy to send you a copy.

  • The Gift
    • Trailer – A project for an editing class while I was attending Chapman. The task was to make a trailer for a short film our professor provided us with.

The film this was cut from is not mine – I only claim the editing decisions in this trailer and the choice of music.

  • Sounds of Silent Cinema
    • Short Documentary – While I was in school, I edited a film for a couple of graduate students – specifically a pair of gentlemen known as Jeff Callaway and Craig Forrest. The film was a short (approximately twenty minute) documentary on theater sound during the era of silent cinema – organs and the like. It was comprised of silent film archival footage and interviews with several film scholars and a gentleman named Bob Mitchel who had been a silent film organist. This film was recently honored at the International Student Film Festival Hollywood with an award for best documentary.Until I have a trailer to put up, this film is not viewable online, but is included in my reel, which you can request a copy of my e-mailing me at squattingturnip@benspants.com.
  • TGIF
    • Short Film – This was a friend’s project for a production class at school
  • Illegal Hope
    • Trailer – A trailer for a film I edited for Pot Belly Pig Productions.
    • Documentary – I also edited the full documentary film “Illegal Hope,” about an alternative Hospital in Mexico. As of now, this film is not available for viewing, as it has not been released. When it is available, this page with reflect that and provide information on acquiring a copy.
  • Galapagos
    • Short Film – Another short film done for Pot Belly Pig Productions, this one focused on the Chapman University summer class in the Galapagos Islands.
  • Recalling Rocco
    • Short Film – A short documentary on maverick school board trustee in Orange County, California. You can find the official web site for the film here.

Motion Graphics

  • Life Bingo
    • Opening Credits – Originally conceptualized to have a spinning 3D Earth in the background, the slowing rising static earth was my last-minute solution to the problem.
    • Closing Credits – I was given pretty basic instructions – maintain the color and shape motifs already established for the rest of the film – but other than that I was given pretty much free reign on design and execution, at least in the early creation stages.
  • Robot House
    • Logo – This was done as a project for class where we were supposed to design a short logo animation for an imaginary production company of our own creation.
  • Desolate Plane
    • Clip – Another class project, this one was to composite several pieces together and make some sort of dark, lava-filled world surface. This clip is rather short, as length was not the focus of the project.
  • Safe Worlds
    • Logo – A piece of work created as an audition of sorts.
